MC-2RR-L Moving coil step up transformer

Moving coil step up transformer

  • Boost signal from magnetic cartridges for phono inputs
  • Passive SUT design does not add any system noise
  • Jensen equipped for the ultimate in pure tone
  • 20 dB of gain for higher impedance cartridges, such as the Denon DL-103

Jensen step-up transformers provide the audio purist with a means to passively boost the signal coming from a moving cartridge without incorporating an active amplification circuit. This is no easy task. Moving coil cartridges produce such a minute signal that increasing the output passively without adding noise requires tremendous engineering and years of experience.

Each Jensen transformer is hand stacked using high nickel content laminations in a unique sequence and then ‘scatter’ wound in a proprietary fashion to ensure the signal is transmitted without distortion or artifact. Internal Faraday shields are combined with a double-layer mu-metal (perm-alloy) can to reject interference from radio frequencies and protect the sensitive magnetic bridge from external electromagnetic fields.

Once connected, the Jensen moving coil step-up transformer (SUT) is best described as a passive signal amplifier that does not color the tone or add artificial flavor. It is made for the purist. It does not try to impress with enhanced high frequency detail or exaggerated bass. It simply delivers the goods in its most transparent and natural form.

Applications

Ideally suited for cartridges such as the Denon DL-103, the MC-2RR-L contains two Jensen JT-44K-DX transformers that deliver 20dB of gain
with a linear frequency response that spans from 8Hz to well over 100kHz. This remarkable performance is achieved with less than 2 degrees
of phase shift at 20Hz and better than 120dB of noise rejection.
